사람들의 발걸음에 닳아 있는 골목 어귀에서,
이예림은 조용히 걷고, 가끔 멈춰 오래 바라봅니다.
주사기의 얇은 선으로 그려낸 장면들은 말하지 않지만, 침묵 속에 잔상을 남깁니다.
기억은 선명할 때보다 흐려질 때 더 자유로워지고,
그는 그 틈에 여백을 두고 그림을 겹겹이 얹어갑니다.
작업은 방향 없이 축적되고, 응시하는 시선만이 조용히 남습니다.
이번 전시는 ‘플라뇌르’의 태도처럼, 직접 말하지 않고 바라보는 세계에 대한 기록입니다.

At the worn entrance of an alley, shaped by countless footsteps,

YERIM Lee walks quietly, occasionally pausing to gaze for a long time.

The scenes drawn with the thin lines of a syringe remain silent, yet leave lingering traces in the stillness.

Memory becomes freer when it fades than when it is vivid,

and she layers her paintings within that gap, leaving spaces in between.

Her work accumulates without direction, leaving only a quiet, observing gaze.

This exhibition is a record of a world observed without words,

like the attitude of a flâneur.

순간들 속에서: 말없이 바라보는 산책자

사람들의 발걸음에 조금씩 닳아 있는 골목 어귀에서 이예림은 조용히 걷고, 가끔 멈춰 오래 바라본다. 말을 걸지 않는 풍경과 설명을 요구하지 않는 구조물들. 그는 그런 장면들 앞에 멈춰 선다. 목적 없이 움직이되 관찰은 명확하다. 한 발짝 물러서 바라보는 이 조용한 시선은 무언가를 붙잡기 보다는 놓아두는 데 가까운 태도다.

그는 형태를 그린다. 선을 따라 면이 생기고 구조가 쌓인다. 그러나 그것은 언제나 구체적인 어딘가이면서도, 동시에 아무데도 아닌 곳이다.

그리기 전 기억 속 풍경이 선명할 때, 그것이 너무 가까워서 손이 망설이기도 한다. 오히려 시간이 흐르고 그 기억이 조금씩 희미해 질 때 손끝은 비로소 자유로워진다. 그렇게 작가는 대상과 자신 사이에 필요한 거리만큼의 여백을 만들고 조용히 장면을 꺼내 화면 위에 올려놓는다.

작가는 목적지 없이 이동하고, 스쳐 지나가는 것들에 가볍게 시선을 얹는다. 그 느슨하고 관조적인 움직임은 플라뇌르의 태도와 닮아 있다. 그렇게 발견된 장소들은 주사기의 얇은 선으로 다시 그려지고, 화면 위에 새로운 형태로 남는다. 단단하고 정제된 선 안에는 감정이 숨겨져 있다기보다 감정이 빠져나간 자리들이 남는다. 그림 속 공간은 인물 없이 비어 있지만, 그 속에는 지나간 시간의 흔적과 생활의 밀도가 배어 있다. 질서와 단절, 기척과 정적이 동시에 머무는 장면들이다. 그곳에 있었던 것처럼 혹은 거기 없었지만 본 적 있는 것처럼 장면을 겹겹이 얹어둔다. 그림은 말을 걸지 않지만 침묵은 비어 있지 않다.

그의 작업은 누군가가 조용히 서서 바라본 끝에 남는 잔상 같다. 무언가가 지나간 자리 누군가가 남기지 않은 기록. 그것은 지나간 장면이지만, 아직 끝나지 않은 감각이다. 작품 앞에 선 우리는 어느 순간, 지금이 아닌 어딘가를 천천히 걷고 있는 자신을 발견하게 된다.

Between Moments는 한 시점에서 다음 시점으로 넘어가는 사이, 사라지기 직전의 장면들이 남긴 기척을 따라간다. 그 사이를 관통하는 시선은 조용하지만 느슨하지 않고, 멈추어 있지만 무겁지 않다. 이예림의 시선은 관찰자로서의 거리와 참여자로서의 애정을 동시에 품는다. 말없이 장면을 걷는 한 사람의 응시.

바로 그 조용한 시선이 이 전시의 부제이자 가장 깊은 결이다.

플라뇌르는 방향 없이 걷고, 설명하지 않으며, 조용히 세계를 관찰하고 사유하는 존재입니다.

19세기 프랑스 문학과 예술 비평에서 비롯된 개념으로, 거리를 유영하며 관찰과 사유를 이어가는 예술적 인물로 알려져 있습니다.

이번 전시는 그러한 시선처럼, 세상을 직접 말하지 않고 조용히 응시하는 태도에 집중하고자 합니다.

At the entrance of an alley slowly worn down by footsteps, YERIM Lee walks quietly, sometimes pausing for a long gaze. The landscapes do not speak, and the structures ask for no explanation. She stops before such scenes—moving without aim, yet with a clear gaze. This quiet perspective, taken one step back, does not seek to capture, but rather to let go.

She draws form. Lines give rise to surfaces, and structures begin to build. But these scenes, while specific, always remain nowhere in particular.

When the memory of a scene is still vivid, the closeness of it makes her hand hesitate. It is only after time has blurred the image that her hand begins to move freely. In that softened space between the subject and herself, she allows just enough distance to bring the image out, layering it quietly on the surface.

The artist moves without destination, casting light glances at what passes by. This loose, contemplative motion resembles the stance of a flâneur. The places discovered in this way are redrawn with the fine line of a syringe, taking new form on the canvas. Rather than hiding emotion, her refined lines trace the space where emotion has quietly receded. Though empty of figures, the drawn scenes are filled with the density of lived moments and the lingering traces of time. These are moments where order and fragmentation, presence and stillness, coexist. She layers the scenes as if she had once been there, or perhaps never had—but still remembers. The works do not speak, but their silence is far from empty.

Her practice is like the afterimage left by someone quietly standing and watching. A trace of what has passed, a record no one meant to leave behind. Though the scenes have ended, the sensation remains unfinished. Standing before her works, we may find ourselves slowly walking—not here, not now, but somewhere in between.

Between Moments follows the traces left behind by scenes just before they disappear—those fragile, in-between moments. The gaze that passes through them is quiet but not loose, still but not heavy. YERIM Lee holds both the distance of an observer and the affection of a participant. The gaze of one who walks through the scene in silence—
that quiet gaze is both the subtitle and the deepest thread of this exhibition.

Flâneur
A flâneur is one who walks without direction, explains nothing, and quietly observes and contemplates the world. Originating in 19th-century French literature and art criticism, the term describes an artistic figure who drifts through the streets, engaging in observation and reflection.
This exhibition centers on that kind of gaze—a silent attitude of watching the world without directly speaking of it.
