08AM의 〈Survival Report〉는 생존을 경험의 문제로 보지 않고, 존재가 세계 속에서 스스로를 유지하기 위해 수행하는 형식적·구조적 운동으로 이해한다. 작가는 선과 면, 그리고 그 배치를 통해 형태가 어떤 방식으로 조정되고 재구성되며 지속을 확보하는지를 탐구하고, 화면을 완결된 이미지가 아닌 지속을 사유하는 과정의 구조로 제시한다. 이번 전시는 특정 서사를 재현하거나 감각을 유도하는 대신, 존재가 스스로를 보존하기 위해 선택하는 형식의 작동 원리를 시각화하는 데 초점을 둔다. 〈Survival Report〉는 이러한 작동을 하나의 도식처럼 드러내며, 관객이 자신의 지속 방식이 어떤 구조 위에서 작동하는지를 다시 바라보도록 구성된 철학적 모델이다.

08AM’s Survival Report understands survival not as a matter of experience, but as a formal and structural movement through which a being sustains itself within the world. Through the arrangement of lines, planes, and their configurations, the artist examines how form adjusts, reorganizes, and secures its own continuity, presenting the canvas not as a completed image but as a structural process for thinking about persistence. Rather than reproducing a specific narrative or eliciting sensory response, the exhibition focuses on visualizing the operative principles of form—those chosen by an existence seeking to preserve itself. Survival Report reveals this operation as a kind of diagram, offering a philosophical model through which viewers can reconsider the structural logic that underlies their own modes of endurance.

08AM의 〈Survival Report〉는 생존을 단순한 경험적 개념으로 다루지 않는다. 이번 전시는 생존을, 들뢰즈가 말한 ‘되기(devenir)’의 존재론— 즉 형태가 고정된 실체로 머무르는 것이 아니라 지속을 위해 끊임없이 조정·변형·접속을 반복하는 운동적 구조—의 관점에서 다시 사유한다. 이러한 관점에서 08AM의 작업은 생존을 하나의 존재론적 구조, 즉 인간이 세계 안에서 자신을 유지하기 위해 수행하는 형식적 배치(assemblage)의 철학으로 전환한다.

그가 구축하는 선과 면, 그리고 그로부터 파생되는 구조는 서사를 재현하지 않으며, 특정한 상태를 묘사하려 하지도 않는다. 대신 그것들은 존재가 스스로를 지속하기 위해 선택하는 형식적 전략을 드러낸다. 그의 화면은 끊임없는 조정과 재배치를 통해 ‘지속’을 사유하는 과정의 장(場)으로 자리한다. 이러한 관점에서 08AM의 작품을 이해한다는 것은 이미지를 바라보는 행위가 아니라, 작품이 제시하는 형식의 철학적 명제를 해석하는 일에 가깝다. 작가는 불안정한 환경 속에서 형태가 어떤 방식으로 견디고, 어떤 운동을 통해 스스로를 보존하는지를 분석하며, 그렇기에 그의 화면은 재현이 아닌 존재의 논리 구조로 기능한다. 미술평론가 홍경한이 정의한 08AM의 ‘에테르(Ether)’— “자기소진과 자기생성이 동시에 일어나는 불완전 연소의 산물”—이라는 개념은
이러한 철학적 구조를 이해하는 하나의 단서를 제공한다. 08AM의 회화는 소멸과 생성이 구분되지 않는, 지속을 위한 운동 그 자체이기 때문이다.

〈Survival Report〉라는 제목은 이 전시가 작가 개인의 기록을 넘어 동시대 존재가 자신을 어떻게 유지하는가에 대한 철학적 서술임을 암시한다.
08AM은 자신이 수행하는 유지의 방식을 시각적 구조로 제시하며, 관객은 이 구조를 통해 자신의 지속 방식이 어떤 원리 위에서 작동하는지를 되돌아보게 된다.

이 전시는 결국 하나의 질문을 던진다. 생존이란 무엇인가? 08AM의 작업을 통해 보자면 생존은 고정된 실체가 아니라 지속을 위한 논리적 운동, 상태가 아니라 형식의 작동이다. 〈Survival Report〉는 그 작동을 기록한 하나의 다이어그램이며, 우리는 그 다이어그램을 통해 자신의 존재 방식을 읽어낼 수 있다. 그 점에서 이 전시는 단순한 회화를 넘어, 예술이 어떻게 철학적 사유의 언어가 되는가를 보여주는 사례가 된다.

08AM’s Survival Report does not treat survival as a simple empirical concept. Instead, the exhibition rethinks survival through the Deleuzian ontology of becoming (devenir)—a dynamic structure in which form is not a fixed entity but continually adjusts, transforms, and connects in order to persist. From this perspective, 08AM’s practice transforms survival into an ontological structure: a philosophy of formal assemblage through which a being maintains itself within the world.

The lines, planes, and structures he constructs do not reproduce narrative, nor do they attempt to depict a particular state. Rather, they reveal the formal strategies an existence chooses in order to continue. Through constant adjustment and rearrangement, his canvas becomes a site for thinking about “continuance” as a process. To understand 08AM’s work, therefore, is less an act of viewing images than of interpreting the philosophical propositions embedded within their formal operations. The artist analyzes how form endures unstable conditions and how it preserves itself through movement, allowing his painting to function not as representation but as a logical structure of being.

Art critic Hong Kyunghan’s definition of 08AM’s “Ether”—“a product of incomplete combustion in which self-exhaustion and self-generation occur simultaneously”—offers one clue to this philosophical structure. For 08AM’s painting is itself the movement of persistence, where disappearance and emergence cannot be separated.

The title Survival Report suggests that the exhibition extends beyond the artist’s personal record to become a philosophical account of how contemporary existence maintains itself. By presenting his own mode of endurance as a visual structure, 08AM invites viewers to reflect on the principles that underlie their own continuity.

Ultimately, the exhibition poses a fundamental question: What is survival? Through 08AM’s work, survival appears not as a fixed entity but as a logical movement toward continuation—an operation of form rather than a state. Survival Report is a diagram that records this operation, enabling us to read our own modes of existence through it. In this sense, the exhibition goes beyond painting to demonstrate how art becomes a language of philosophical thought.
